The American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics once again awarded the department of rehabilitation medicine a full three-year accreditation. The orthotics and prosthetics labs, located both at the Health Science Center and the Texas Diabetes Institute, were recognized for continued achievement in organizational management, patient-care standards, quality assurance, and facility and safety management. The lab personnel played a strong role in obtaining a perfect score of 100 percent. They painstakingly prepared for the survey that was conducted in late April.
“It is interesting that the majority of commercial labs are not accredited, even though Medicare and many commercial payers will soon require this achievement to receive payments,” said Nicolas Walsh, M.D., professor and chair of rehabilitation medicine. “We are pleased to offer this accreditation as just one example of our continued commitment to excellence for patients served by our practitioners and our lab support personnel.”
Congratulations to the department of rehabilitation medicine!
