In an effort to demonstrate a continuing commitment to patient care, all eligible physical therapists in the physical therapy department are now members of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). The APTA is a national organization that represents more than 65,000 physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students. The organization announced the memberships last month.
“Achieving 100 percent membership in this professional association will help us strengthen our patient care by encouraging the advancement of physical therapy education, research and practice,” said Heather Braden, P.T, M.P.T., Ph.D., assistant professor of physical therapy at the Health Science Center.
Each member of the APTA pledges to abide by the association’s
Code of Ethics and
Standards of Ethical Conduct, which hold them to a high standard of practice.
“This achievement demonstrates commitment to excellence in physical-therapist practice, which is the goal of the APTA,” said Ben F. Massey Jr., P.T., M.A., president of the APTA.
Physical therapists are health care professionals who diagnose and treat people of all ages with conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. They also help prevent conditions associated with the loss of mobility through fitness and wellness programs.
