Congratulations to Jane Youngers, assistant vice president for research and sponsored programs, who has been named chair of the prestigious Council on Governmental Relations (COGR) Board of Directors. Her appointment is effective this month.
COGR is an association of 171 research-intensive universities and affiliated medical centers and research institutes.
“COGR is a key source of critical information on current and emerging issues for its members. It attempts to limit unnecessary or overly prescriptive regulation by actively working with agencies sponsoring their research activities,” Youngers said. “It is an honor to be selected as chair of such an important organization.”
The board executes the oversight and management of the association and is actively involved in the subject areas with which COGR deals, including research compliance and administration, and intellectual property management.
“For five years Jane has ably represented the Health Science Center on the COGR Board of Directors,” said Brian Herman, Ph.D., vice president for research at the Health Science Center. “We value her skills and abilities to continue to advance research institutions across the nation, which I know she will be able to do as chair of the board.”
COGR's primary function is to provide advice and information to its membership and to make certain that federal agencies understand academic operations and the impact of proposed regulations on colleges and universities. COGR helps to develop policies and practices that fairly reflect the mutual interests and separate obligations of federal agencies and universities in research and graduate education.
