The Health Science Center’s Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) in Harlingen is pleased to announce the third Annual Health Fair, to be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, at the RAHC in Harlingen.
This year’s topic, “Lifestyle Changes for a Healthier Life,” promotes the idea that everyone can make adjustments in their daily routines, which will lead to a healthier future.
“Small sacrifices in our lifestyles can make significant changes in our health,” said Andrew Lombardo, RAHC library administrator and coordinator for the health fair. “That’s the point we want to get across to those who come to the health fair.”
Those who attend the fair will have the opportunity to receive:
• blood glucose and cholesterol checks,
• height/weight/BMI checks, and
• blood pressure and vision screenings.
Several exhibitors at the fair will also present information on nutrition, mental health, exercise, stress and oral health. Exercise demonstrations, including gentle yoga and kickboxing for teens, will also be available.
The event is sponsored by the Center for South Texas Programs and local community members. Last year’s theme, “Moving Into Our Teens,” targeted teens, pre-teens and their families. The event featured approximately 40 exhibitors and was attended by more than 350 residents in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
More exhibitors and attendees are expected at this year’s health fair.
