The Health Science Center is pleased to announce its 2006 Presidential Distinguished Lecture, to be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the central campus auditorium.
Breast cancer pioneer Angela Brodie, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, is the honored guest whose groundbreaking research led to the discovery of aromatase inhibitors. Dr. Brodie’s presentation, “Aromatase Inhibitors and Breast Cancer: Concept to Clinic,” will focus on aromatase inhibitors, a new class of breast cancer drugs that now play a major role in the treatment of women with breast cancer.
During 2006, an estimated that 212,920 new cases of invasive breast cancer will occur among American women, and an estimated 40,970 women will die from breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.
