Second annual Core Day to showcase HSC shared resourcesLearn about intriguing technologies and services available at the Health Science Center at the second annual Core Day. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the School of Medicine lecture hall foyer. Posters will be manned by facility staff members from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This event is sponsored by the office of the vice president for research. Institutional core research facilities and related research support departments will display dozens of posters detailing some of the Health Science Center’s most interesting research resources. Individuals from each resource will be available to answer questions and describe their area of expertise.
Core Day is designed to inform investigators of research resources and to support departmental activities. The event will benefit everyone involved in research.

WFA to hold Fall Meet and GreetThe Women’s Faculty Association (WFA) is pleased to announce its Fall Meet and Greet, from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, in Room 209L of the School of Medicine building.

Friends of Historical Library welcome Pulitzer Prize winner to San AntonioThe Health Science Center is pleased to welcome 2006 Pulitzer Prize Winner David M. Oshinsky, Ph.D., as the featured speaker at the Friends of the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library’s 36th Annual Dinner-Presentation. The event will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov.14, at the Double Tree Hotel, 37 Northeast Loop 410.
Dr. Oshinsky holds the Blanton Chair in History at The University of Texas at Austin and received the Pulitzer Prize in History for his famed book, “Polio: An American Story.” The author discusses the panic that occurred in the early 1950s when polio struck the country.
