Texas Land and Cattle Steak House has generously donated 1,000 meals to the Health Science Center’s PREMIEre Program, which benefit some of this community’s tiniest babies.

“Take-Out for Tots” will take place Friday, Nov. 10, in the breezeway by the central campus auditorium. Health Science Center employees can select from smoked sirloin or grilled chicken, each served with garlic mashed potatoes, a salad, apple cobbler, and tea or water. Vegetarian meals are also available.

Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance at the neonatology office, Room 524L of the School of Medicine building, or during lunch hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at any of the following locations:

• Foyer near Java City
• Dental School cafeteria
• University Hospital cafeteria

Maria Falcon, MSIV, has served on the PREMIEre Advisory Board since her first year of medical school. She has been a liaison, keeping the student body informed about the activities and progress of the board. Recently, she recruited Texas Land and Cattle Steak House to sponsor the PREMIEre Program.

“This has been wonderful to be involved with a program in which board members take such an active, caring role in providing both neurodevelopmental and emotional support for premature infants and their families,” Falcon said. “As I have performed my clinical rotations during my third and fourth years of school, my experience with this program and seeing the way it impacts the lives of so many South Texas families inspires me to work harder.”

The PREMIEre Program is a high-risk, infant follow-up program for children weighing less than 3 pounds, 5 ounces at birth. PREMIEre offers specialized services such as developmental testing and comprehensive neurological exams. Children also are linked with early childhood intervention services that provide physical, occupational and speech therapy.
