Chul Soo Ha, M.D., a Harvard Medical School and Rice University alumnus who spent the past 14 years on the faculty of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer at Houston, recently began new duties as professor and chairman of the department of radiation oncology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Ha, who is cross-appointed to the radiation oncology physician staff at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center, brings outstanding expertise in lymphoma clinical trials and basic research to San Antonio. At M.D. Anderson, he had been medical director of the Radiation Treatment Center since 2002 and associate director of the Multidisciplinary Lymphoma Center since 2000. He was a professor in radiation oncology with tenure at M.D. Anderson.
His new activities include membership in the San Antonio Cancer Institute, which is a partnership of the Health Science Center and the Cancer Therapy & Research Center. SACI is one of only two National Cancer Institute Cancer Centers in Texas.
Dr. Ha’s scholarship was recognized with induction to Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year at Rice. He was inducted into the national chemistry honor society, Phi Lambda, the same year. At Harvard, he won the Karin Grunebaum Cancer Research Foundation Fellowship.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry summa cum laude from Rice in 1982 and his M.D. from the Harvard Medical School in 1987. His internship in medicine and residency in radiation oncology were accomplished at Harvard. He has completed several significant postgraduate courses, including the Faculty Leadership Academy at M.D. Anderson.
Dr. Ha, who is board certified in radiation oncology, has been named to “Best Doctors in America” three times. His peer-reviewed publications number about 140, and he serves as a reviewer for several important journals in his field.
