The Health Science Center is pleased to welcome J. Jeffrey Andrews, M.D., to the anesthesiology department. He was named the R. Brian Smith Professor and Chair of the department of anesthesiology, effective Nov. 1.
Dr. Andrews joins the Health Science Center from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he served as vice chair for education, director of resident education and professor of anesthesiology.
Dr. Andrews has a long history with The University of Texas System. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology. Shortly after that, he earned his M.D. degree at UT Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) and completed his anesthesiology residency there as well. After completing his residency, he spent seven years as an assistant professor at UTMB.
Dr. Andrews has been listed in Best Doctors in America® four times and named one of UTMB’s top 10 teachers on numerous occasions.
