The San Antonio Business Journal honored four Health Science Center employees Jan. 18 at the 12th Annual 40 Under Forty Rising Stars Award Luncheon, held at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel.
Kristen Plastino, M.D., assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology; Sylvia Zubyk, M.D., clinical assistant professor of radiation oncology; Muralidhar Beeram, M.D., assistant professor of medical oncology; and the late Roman Hlatky, M.D., assistant professor of neurosurgery, were each recognized for making a difference in the community and specific organizations.
The annual event honors 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are considered to be the rising stars of San Antonio. The San Antonio Business Journal says some of these people are directly involved in the community, while others are leading organizations that will ultimately impact the economy by improving education, access to health care, technology and/or job opportunities.
The Health Science Center accepted the award for Dr. Hlatky, who was honored posthumously. He died Sept. 20 in a motor vehicle accident on his way home from caring for patients at University Hospital.
