More than one year ago, the Health Science Center began the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaffirmation of accreditation process – an accreditation that is vital for the Health Science Center to have all of the privileges and the status of a fully-accredited educational institution.
The Health Science Center’s SACS team is pleased with the progress the institution has made in the past year. The team wishes to provide an update on the progress, as well as thank the campus community for its participation.
“The SACS Commission on Colleges reevaluates regionally accredited institutions up to every 10 years, examining all academic and administrative functions,” said Theresa Chiang, Ed.D., vice president for academic administration and leader of the Health Science Center’s reaccreditation process. “I’m proud to say that we have completed more than 60 percent of the compliance standards and have posted them on our Health Science Center SACS Web site.”

In addition to completing the compliance standards, the SACS process also requires the Health Science Center to increase the effectiveness of student learning through a five-year comprehensive Quality Enhancement Plan QEP). Several faculty teams wrote proposals for the QEP. For more information, please visit

The SACS team is using the slogan “Students Are Central to Success,” Dr. Chiang said. “We believe the reaffirmation process will help our Health Science Center to continue to achieve the goal of student success.”
