Do you volunteer at your church, coach your kid’s soccer team or help construct Habitat for Humanity houses?

The Heath Science Center, in conjunction with The University of Texas System, launched the U.T. Service & Civic Participation program Feb. 1. The program will recognize the many volunteer hours Health Science Center faculty, staff and students give to the community.

Any volunteer work you do through service and civic involvement can count toward the President’s Volunteer Service Awards. The only requirements are that the work be unpaid, verifiable and logged through a new Web-based system.

Award categories
Awards will be given in four categories:
∙ Adults age 15-25 − Bronze Award, 100-174 hours; Silver Award, 175-249 hours; and Gold Award, 250 or more hours.
∙ Adults age 26 and older − Bronze Award, 100-249 hours; Silver Award, 250-499 hours; and Gold Award, 500 or more hours.
∙ Groups of two or more people− Each person must contribute at least 25 hours. Bronze Award, 200-249 hours; Silver Award, 500-999 hours; Gold Award, 1,000 or more hours.
∙ President’s Call to Service Award − Individuals who have given 4,000 or more volunteer service hours over their lifetime are eligible to receive this award.
