Dan Carroll and Randy de los Reyes are the Employees of the Quarter for first quarter of 2007 in the department of facilities management.
Carroll Carroll, a utilities station operator, works in the central energy plant and facilities management. “Dan has made an admirable effort to make the plant safer, more efficient and well organized over the past 10 years,” said Jeff Davidson, Central Energy Plant (CEP) superintendent. “He works diligently to ensure that his employees know all the safety practices and are trained to wear their personal protective equipment.
“He also has always demonstrated the willingness to assist other divisions with problems even when it is not his direct responsibility. On several occasions Dan has assisted the utilities and construction and maintenance divisions with steam repairs and shutdowns. He also provides quality leadership and supervision along with his dedication to CEP operations,” Davidson said.
de los Reyes An information technology specialist, de los Reyes heads the information management office. He handles a variety of services including desktop support, user training, SQL programming and Web site design.
One of de los Reyes’ main areas of responsibility is operating the department’s computerized maintenance management system, used to manage the university’s facilities and assets, execute maintenance operations and bill customers for work. “Randy designed the facilities management Web site, which has been recognized as one of the most useful at the Health Science Center,” said Gary Tate, assistant director for business services. Through the Web site, customers can easily submit and track their work requests.
He also was instrumental in placing the information contractors would need to bid on campus construction projects online so that paper copies of bid requirements are no longer needed. “We are extremely fortunate to have Randy as part of our team,” Tate said.
