Interested in the advancement of women and minorities on campus? Want to provide input on parking and traffic safety? Many university-wide committees currently exist at the Health Science Center each with an important function that shapes the future of the institution.
President Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., recently announced a call to register for participation on the standing committees during fiscal year 2008. The deadline is Feb. 28.
Serving on these committees is another way to demonstrate service to the university, Dr. Cigarroa said. It also is one important factor that is considered in the faculty promotion and tenure process.
To be considered for service on one of the committees, you must be a full-time faculty member and submit the online Faculty Interest Questionnaire, located at
When you submit your questionnaire you will receive electronic confirmation. The electronic system will forward your questionnaire to the appropriate member of the Committee on Committees (COC), which is responsible for recommending committee appointments to Dr. Cigarroa. The system also will send a message to your department chair, requesting support for your appointment. You will be copied on the chairs response when it is sent to the COC representatives, if the chair chooses to respond.
Each school has two representatives on the Committee on Committees, and I urge faculty members with questions about any committees to contact their representative, said COC Chair David Cappelli, D.M.D., M.P.H., Ph.D. If your representative contacts you, please be open to requests to serve on a particular committee.
For more information, please contact Dr. Cappelli at cappelli@uthscsa.edu or 210-567-3186. You may also contact the office of the vice president for academic administration at 210-567-2004.
