Foster, M.D., the John Denis McGarry, Ph.D., Distinguished Chair in Diabetes and Metabolic Research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, will speak on “The President’s Council on Bioethics and Stem Cell Research.” The lecture will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 12 in lecture hall 3.104A, near the Briscoe Library. A question and answer session will be held from 5 to 5:15 p.m., followed by a reception.
This is the inaugural lecture in the Milka M. Montiel, M.D., Distinguished Lecture Series in Pathology.
Dr. Foster is a member of the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences. He also is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Dr. Foster was appointed to the President’s Council on Bioethics by President George Bush in January 2002 and was reappointed for a third term in 2005. He is president of the Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas.
He was the host of the nationally televised program, "Daniel Foster, M.D." for four seasons on the Public Broadcasting System. The weekly program also was shown in Europe.
