National Doctors’ Day is March 30. It is the perfect time for patients, friends, family and colleagues to thank and honor physicians for their continuing commitment to their patients and to exceptional medical care.
In San Antonio, the event will be held over three days, March 30 through April 1. The public is invited to stop by the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, 6211 I-10 West, to sign a “thank-you” banner, donate blood, make an appointment to donate platelets and join the national Marrow Donor Program. Stop by from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on March 30, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 31 or noon to 5 p.m. on April 1.
The festivities are a collaboration between the Bexar County Medical Society Alliance (BCMSA) and South Texas Blood & Tissue Center.
Two physicians are being highlighted at the kickoff celebration at 10:30 a.m. March 30 to illustrate the need for the public’s help:
• Dr. Kenneth Piest, a San Antonio ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He is in need of a marrow transplant
• Dr. Mitch Finnie, a family medicine practitioner, is being honored for donating twice through the National Marrow Donor Program, despite his busy medical practice.
