Saks Fifth Avenue and designer Carolina Herrera to raise funds for Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute

San Antonio (March 9, 2007) – Hold on to your haute couture! The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute will benefit from the fashion event of the year hosted by Saks Fifth Avenue. “An Evening with Carolina Herrera” will take place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Saks Fifth Avenue at North Star Mall, 7400 San Pedro Ave. The public is invited. World-renowned fashion designer Carolina Herrera will visit with guests after an exclusive presentation of her latest fashions. This is a rare San Antonio appearance by the designer. Guests will preview Herrera’s Fall 2007 collection, which is direct from the runway shows of New York’s Fashion Week. The live one-of-a-kind fashion show, the centerpiece of the evening’s entertainment, begins at 8 p.m.
Both men and women also will have the opportunity to discover the latest designs and shop for Carolina Herrera fashions in a special boutique that Saks will set up especially for guests. Exquisite cuisine and exciting entertainment will top off the evening.
“We are so pleased to be the recipients of Saks Fifth Avenue’s generosity,” said Barbie O’Connor, who, along with her husband, Toby, are the founding presidents of the Greehey CCRI’s Ambassadors’ Circle. “For more than 20 years, Saks has been the hallmark of high fashion and the hottest trends in San Antonio. What also makes Saks a model of style and sophistication is its commitment to so many charities in this city,” she said.

The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute is a unique and specialized cancer research center. The mission of the Greehey CCRI is to advance scientific knowledge relevant to childhood cancer and to accelerate the translation of knowledge into novel therapies. Through discovery, development and dissemination of scientific knowledge with relevancy to childhood cancer, the overarching aim of the Greehey CCRI is to impact the problem of cancer at all ages.

Carolina Herrera
Along with the newly launched fragrance, CHIC, Carolina Herrera oversees an international design firm that encompasses her signature fashion collection, a bridal collection, fragrances and accessories. Sales extend around the world, throughout the United States, South America, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Herrera descends from a long line of Venezuelan landowners and statesmen. She is the mother of four daughters. After receiving a positive reaction to a fashion collection she created in 1980 as a test, she moved with her family to New York and formed Carolina Herrera, Ltd. “With my clothing and fragrances, I believe that it is best to be realistic, but to always mix a bit of fantasy with reality. It’s the same with life, really,” she said.
