Gail Tomlinson, M.D., Ph.D., who recently joined the Health Science Center from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, is the division chief. She is professor of pediatrics and deputy director of the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute at the Health Science Center.

For more than 30 years, the division, in association with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, has provided care to infants, children and adolescents affected by hematologic, oncologic and immunologic disorders.

The division’s mission is to disseminate new knowledge to medical students, residents and practicing physicians; to acquire new knowledge by participating in basic and clinical research; and to put new knowledge into practice in the care of patients.

The Clinical Trials Participation Award will be presented Saturday, June 2, at ASCO’s 43rd Annual Meeting in Chicago.

The Health Science Center division is one of 10 group practices to be honored by ASCO for improving the care of cancer patients through increased participation in clinical trials.

Award selection was based on a number of factors, including patient accrual to clinical trials over a three-year period.
