Health care providers and educators are invited to attend the 2007 Summer Institute on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) July 12-14 at the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk Hotel and Conference Center, 111 Pecan Street East, in San Antonio. The theme of the conference is “Quality and Safety.”

Sponsored by the Academic Center for Evidence-Based Practice (ACE), the institute will be of particular interest to clinicians, researchers, educators and administrators. The conference will help prepare health care providers from multiple disciplines for an increasing role in evidence-based practice in order to improve health care.

Evidence-based practice
The School of Nursing established the ACE in 2000 as the first nursing center in the nation dedicated to promoting and encouraging EBP. EBP is a process in which practitioners use the successful outcomes from clinical trials in combination with their expertise and a patient’s preferences to provide the best possible health care. Health care providers are encouraged to become involved in conducting clinical trials to contribute to the body of knowledge used to improve health care practices.

“Given the Health Science Center’s heightened interest in translational research, we are fortunate to have this excellent group of speakers here in San Antonio,” explained Kathleen R. Stevens, R.N., Ed.D., F.A.A.N., professor and director of the Academic Center for Evidence-Based Practice. “We expect to draw nearly 400 participants from as far away as Australia.”
