A number of important changes are coming in July for faculty and staff at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Employee Self-Service, beginning July 5, will give Health Science Center employees online access to their personal information. In addition, employees are invited to attend the benefits fair July 10 to learn about changes to benefits choices for the new fiscal year.

Online system to give employees access to their personal information

Paper pay stubs will soon be a thing of the past for employees who use direct deposit.

When the new online Employee Self-Service (ESS) program begins July 5, employees will be able to go online at any time to print their own earnings statements, update their personal information and view their current benefits information. Here are some of the features:
1. View, print, or change your:
• Home/mailing/email address
• Telephone numbers
• Emergency contacts
• Name
• Marital status
2. View and print your most recent and past earnings statements
3. View your benefits information including health, insurance and savings
4. View your dependent and beneficiary information
5. View and print a summary of your:
• Benefits
• Dependents and beneficiaries
• Health care for dependents
• Insurance beneficiaries
6. Designate your foreign language reading, writing and speaking proficiency

ESS is only one of the technological advances the Human Capital Management (HCM) Upgrade team will introduce to the campus in July. For more than a year, Health Science Center staff members have been working to improve and streamline many business processes, upgrading the current HRMS 7.5 system to the new HCM 8.9 system.

“Most of us would rather have a root canal than spend time reviewing and making changes to our employee benefits,” said Brett Morris, assistant vice president for human resources. “In fact, most people wait until the last three days of the annual enrollment month to make their insurance changes.

“If you have ever compared our benefits to those offered by other employers, you know that The University of Texas System benefits offered by the Health Science Center are very competitive,” he said. “However, it takes time to review the options to make good choices for you and your family.”

Attend the benefits fair
You can ensure that you make better decisions this year by attending the Human Resources Benefits Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, in the auditorium and foyer on the Central Campus. Refreshments will be served.

Among the speakers are:
• Laura Chambers from The U.T. System Office of Employee Benefits, who will speak about this year’s insurance options. She will speak at 9:30 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.
• Mark Jacobson from PayFlex, who will discuss U.T. Flex at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Take time to review choices
In addition to attending the benefits fair, Morris urges employees to take time to review their benefit choices early to make sure they meet their needs and those of their covered dependents.

If you have a question regarding your benefits, contact a human resources counselor by e-mail or call 210-567-2600.
