Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., president of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and Julio Palmaz, M.D., Ashbel Smith Professor, the radiologist who invented the Palmaz® Stent at the Health Science Center, are pictured in “San Antonio: The Seventh-Largest U.S. City … and Growing,” a special advertising section in the July 23 issue of
Forbes magazine, now on newsstands.
Dr. Cigarroa is pictured with a child on a page titled “Lone Star Resurgence” about business opportunities the city is fostering.
Dr. Palmaz is featured in a full-page ad sponsored by BioMed SA, a non-profit corporation that is focused on growing and promoting San Antonio’s vibrant health care and bioscience sector. BioMed SA launched an industry award for innovation last year named in honor of Dr. Palmaz, making him a natural candidate for the launch of the organization’s nationwide advertising campaign.
In the Forbes ad, which was co-sponsored by the Health Science Center, Dr. Palmaz is pictured holding a heart model, and his image is superimposed on a vintage photograph of the Alamo. The tagline reads, “Heroes Championed San Antonio. They Still Do.”
“The Health Science Center is South Texas’ leading research institution, ranked in the top 5 percent of the 1,650 U.S. universities and non-profits receiving federal research funding,” the section mentions. It also cites the School of Medicine’s listing in
Hispanic Business magazine’s “Top 10 Medical Schools for Hispanics” survey.
