Nine faculty present research at international congress

The work of nine faculty members from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio were accepted for presentations at the Sigma Theta Tau 8th International Nursing Research Congress Focusing on Evidence-Based Practice July 11-14 in Vienna, Austria. Sigma Theta Tau is the international honor society for nursing. - Four high-level nursing faculty members presented their paper, “Faculty Workload Analysis as an Evidence Based Approach to Equity,” co-authored by Robin Froman, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N., dean of the School of Nursing and holder of the Dr. Patty L. Hawken Nursing Endowed Professorship; Kay Avant, R.N., Ph.D., professor and chair, and holder of the Roger L. and Laura D. Zeller Charitable Foundation Professorship in the Department of Family Nursing; Adrianne Linton, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor and chair of the Department of Chronic Nursing and holder of the School of Nursing Professorship; and Nancy Girard, Ph.D, R.N., F.A.A.N., professor and chair of the Department of Acute Nursing and holder of the William Castella Nursing Professorship in Aging Studies.
- Dr. Froman and Steven V. Owen, Ph.D., professor in the School of Medicine's Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, presented a paper, "Poor samples in exploratory factor analysis degrade evidence based practice."
- Adelita Gonzales Cantu, Ph.D., R.N., gave an oral presentation on “Measuring Acculturation through Mixed Methodology: A Roadmap to Discovery.” Another one of Dr. Cantu’s papers was selected for a poster presentation titled “Building a Multidisciplinary Collaboration for Clinical Translational Research: Lessons Learned.” Dr. Cantu is a clinical instructor in the Department of Family Nursing.
- The paper by Jane Dimmit-Champion, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor in the Department of Family Nursing, was selected for an oral presentation. It was titled “Translation of an Evidence-Based Behavioral Intervention for AIDS Patients.”
- Darlene Gilcreast, Ph.D., R.N., assistant professor in the Department of Chronic Nursing, presented her paper, “Outcomes of a Nurse-Managed Diabetic-Foot Clinic.”
- Susan Ruzicka, Ph.D., R.N., assistant professor in the Department of Chronic Nursing Care, was selected to present “Best Practice: Ethical Decision Making Model in Practice in the Palliative Care of the Older Adult at End of Life.”
