Olav Alvares, D.D.S., Ph.D., associate professor of periodontics, received the 2008 International Association of Dental Researchers (IADR) Distinguished Service Award July 2 at the IADR annual meeting in Toronto, Canada.
The IADR Board of Directors established this prestigious award for members who have not served as an IADR officer but have performed outstanding service to the association or distinguished service over a period of time.
Dr. Alvares edited journal for 19 yearsDr. Alvares served 19 years as editor-in-chief of
Critical Reviews in Oral Biology and Medicine, the official publication of the IADR. The publication was ranked No. 1 for its scientific impact by the Institute for Scientific Information during the last three years of his editorship, and it had a record-breaking 6.0 scientific impact in the last year that he was editor.
Dr. Alvares also served on several IADR committees.
"Coming as it does from the international dental research community, it will be an award that I will always treasure with great humility," Dr. Alvares said.
