Everyone matters! That is the slogan for the UT Health Science Center’s 2008 State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC). This year’s campaign will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, through Friday, Oct. 3, and Graciela Cigarroa, wife of President Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., will serve as the 2008 SECC honorary chair.

Challenging economic times provide many ways to help others in need
“These past few months have been difficult for many people in our community, state and nation because of rising gas and food prices,” Graciela Cigarroa said. “These challenging economic times seem to take more of a toll on those in our community who already have the greatest needs. Therefore, it is my hope that we all participate in this year’s SECC to the greatest extent possible.”

Campus goal is $380,000
The SECC Steering Committee, appointed by Dr. Cigarroa and charged with setting the overall direction of the charitable giving campaign, set a campuswide goal to raise $380,000. Every employee will receive a packet from their departmental coordinator.

Opportunity to make lives better
“As Mrs. Cigarroa mentioned, this has been a very difficult year for many people. Even though all of us have been affected by the higher prices, some more than others, we hope that every one of you will carefully review the information in the SECC packet and consider giving to this year’s campaign. By doing so, you will undoubtedly be helping some of our own employees, as well as others in San Antonio and the state. This is a real opportunity to contribute to the community and to make lives better,” said Mary DeLay, 2008 SECC chair.
