A test of the HSC Alert System will occur on Friday, Feb. 13.

In preparation for the test, the UT Health Science Center San Antonio Behavior Intervention Team is hosting HSC Alert sign-up tables to encourage faculty, staff and students to enroll or check the e-mail addresses and phone numbers they have designated.

Committee members will have a laptop computer available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 2-6 in the Lecture Hall Foyer. In addition, a table will be set up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, in the School of Health Professions, to facilitate enrollments on the Greehey Academic and Research Campus.

HSC Alert is an emergency notification system the UT Health Science Center San Antonio uses to notify faculty, staff and students of emergencies and campus closures.

Those who sign up will receive text messages through the e-mail accounts and electronic devices they designate regarding campus emergencies, evacuations or closings. A few test messages are sent each year to ensure the system is working properly.

Signing up is easy
It is simple to sign up for HSC Alert from your own computer. Just sign in on the portal (inside.uthscsa.edu) and follow the instructions. Up to four devices can be designated to receive these messages, including e-mail addresses, cell phones and other electronic devices.

HSC Alert could save your life
“Signing up for HSC Alert could save your life in an emergency,” said Joe Kobos, Ph.D., chair of the Behavior Intervention Team. It is one of several communication methods the Health Science Center uses to notify the campus community in case of emergency.

The Health Science Center pays for the HSC Alert service. The only fee users incur is the usual charge by their carrier to receive a text message.
