Kris Carr calls herself the “cancer cowgirl,” and “an irreverent foot soldier in the fight against cancer.” She brings her witty anecdotes, diet advice and tips for tackling adversity to San Antonio March 17 for the Cancer Center Council’s 16th Annual Spring Luncheon. Proceeds will benefit the Patient Assistance Fund of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
KSAT-TV news anchor Leslie Mouton will emcee the event at 11:30 a.m. at the Pearl Stable, 312 Pearl Parkway. CTRC Physician-in-Chief Randal Otto, M.D., will speak, and Dianna Roy will be named the Cancer Center Council’s Volunteer of the Year. Volunteers Barbara Haley and Yona McNish are chair and co-chair of the event.

Keynote speaker wrote and directedCarr, the keynote speaker, is an award-winning actress, best-selling author, filmmaker and subject of the uplifting documentary, “Crazy, Sexy Cancer.” She wrote and directed the film, which chronicles her four-year adventure of living and thriving with Stage 4 cancer. It premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival and was broadcast on The Learning Channel and Discovery Health in 2007.
