A nationally recognized expert on cultural issues in psychiatry will be featured on Friday, March 27, at the third Distinguished Speakers Series of the Committee on the Advancement of Women and Minorities at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Annelle B. Primm, M.D., M.P.H., an associate professor of psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and director of minority and national affairs for the American Psychiatric Association, will speak on disparities in mental health care.
She will deliver the lecture at noon in Room 1.463 in the School of Nursing. A reception will follow.
Presidential Commendation from the American Psychiatric Association Dr. Primm is a leader in mental health screening initiatives focused on medically underserved populations. Her areas of interest range from mental health to cultural diversity and prevention of health disparities. She has received a number of awards and honors, most recently the American Psychiatric Association Presidential Commendation in 2006.
Three roundtable discussions planned for faculty and staffIn addition to her lecture, Dr. Primm will lead three roundtable discussions during her visit. In the first, scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, March 26, she will talk with students from all five Health Science Center schools, as well as the San Antonio Regional Campus of the University of Texas School of Public Health. This roundtable is designed to promote interactive discussion with the students on ethics and diversity. The roundtable will be in Lecture Hall 2.010 in the School of Medicine.
On Friday, March 27, Dr. Primm will present two additional roundtables: one for executive administration and one for faculty and staff.
