Six UT Health Science Center faculty members were named Healthcare Heroes on Friday, April 10, by the San Antonio Business Journal. A banquet will be held in their honor on May 13.

The honorees and their awards include:
  • Tyler Curiel, M.D., M.P.H., received the Biomedical Research award. Dr. Curiel is executive director of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, assistant dean for oncology, the Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Distinguished University Professor of Targeted Cancer Therapy and the Dielmann Professor of Medicine.

  • William Henrich, M.D., MACP, interim president of the UT Health Science Center and professor of medicine, received the Administrative Excellence award.

  • G. Richard Holt, M.D., M.S.E., M.P.H., M.A.B.E., professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics, received the Lifetime Achievement award.

    Dr. David Jimenez received the Health Care Innovator award.

  • David Jimenez, M.D., FACS, professor and chair of the department of neurosurgery at the UT Health Science Center, was honored with three colleagues from the Baptist Health System with the Health Care Innovator award for creating the Brain & Stroke Network.

  • Amelie Ramirez, Dr.PH., received the Health Care Provider award. She is professor of epidemiology and biostatistics, founding director of the Institute for Health Promotion Research, the Dielmann Chair in Health Disparities and Community Outreach, and the Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Endowed Chair.

  • Steven Wolf, M.D., received the Outstanding Physician award. Dr. Wolf is professor of surgery, the Betty and Bob Kelso Distinguished Chair in Burn and Trauma Surgery, chief of clinical research at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research and director of the Pediatric Burn Program at University Hospital.
