A brief program and butterfly release honoring living organ transplant donors will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 1 in the Parman Auditorium Foyer and on the courtyard of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus.

The event is sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation and University Transplant Center, a partnership between the UT Health Science Center San Antonio and University Health System.

Among those to be honored at the ceremony are longtime Health Science Center faculty member John A. Mangos, M.D., and his son-in-law, David Umbel, who donated a kidney to Dr. Mangos.

The physician served on the Health Science Center faculty for 27 years, including nearly 15 as chair of the Department of Pediatrics. He retired in March 2009, but has since returned as a part-time clinical faculty member.
