Information Security is one of the highest priorities of the UT Health Science Center. To underscore the university’s commitment in this area, an Information Security awareness campaign is being launched this spring.
“Although our policies, technologies and staff do a good job of protecting our institution, each one of us must play a part in protecting our very valuable information,” said Interim President William L. Henrich, M.D., MACP.
“We learned a hard lesson last fall when a single lapse in caution and diligence resulted in a negative impact on everyone at the Health Science Center who transacts electronic business over the Internet. An even more constant threat lies in lost or stolen laptops and USB drives containing sensitive information that, in the hands of the criminal, can result in real harm to a great many people,” Dr. Henrich said.
“Our Information Security awareness program will serve to remind us all of the need to remain on guard and use our best judgment to protect personal information, such as our passwords, patient files, student records, account numbers and PINs,” he added.
