The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the oldest and largest Hispanic chamber in the country, honored Jaime R. Garza, M.D., D.D.S., FACS, with the 2009 Business Owner of the Year Award. Dr. Garza, clinical professor of surgery and clinical professor of otolaryngology at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio, previously served full time as division chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery and vice president for South Texas programs.

A former professional and college football player, he owns and operates the Texas Plastic Surgery practice and Stadia Med Spa in the Texas Center for Athletes, 21 Spurs Lane in the South Texas Medical Center. The practice was established in 2007. At the Health Science Center, Dr. Garza developed the plastic and reconstructive surgery division in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber recognized Dr. Garza and five other local executives who have supported the chamber’s initiatives. Among the other honors, the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Charles Cotrell, Ph.D., president of St. Mary’s University, and the Community Service Award was presented to Kevin Moriarty, president and chief executive officer of Methodist Healthcare Ministries.
