Mark your calendars! All faculty, staff, students and their guests are invited to the third annual Medical Student Research Day scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the auditorium.
From noon to 1 p.m., information will be presented regarding student research funding opportunities. Dr. Infante, associate dean for research in the School of Medicine, will be joined by guests who will highlight the following:
• National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowships -- Derek Dombroski, MS-III, received a fellowship that enabled him to spend the past two years studying at the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. He recently was selected to receive funding for his third year of medical school as part of the NIH research training fellowships for medical students.
• Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowships -- Dr. Michael McPhaul, assistant dean for medical student research at the U T Southwestern Medical School, will be available to discuss this program with students.
From 2 to 4 p.m., more than 30 medical students will present posters featuring research projects and patient case studies.
From 4 to 5 p.m., Dr. Gerald Nepom, director of the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason in Seattle, Wash., will serve as this year’s distinguished speaker. He will discuss“MHC Class II Multimers: Expanding the Clinical Toolkit.” At the conclusion of the program, awards will be given to the students with the most outstanding poster presentations.
