Deskbound employees with no office window can now take a look outside thanks to a new feature called CampusCam in inside.uthscsa, the university’s internal Web portal. CampusCam sends a live image from the top of the 7th floor of the School of Medicine every 10 seconds.
“People always ask, ‘What’s the weather like outside?’ because so few employees have an office with a window,” said Jim Barrett, Webmaster. “Here’s their window.”
Once users have signed on to the portal,
inside.uthscsa.edu, under the Links heading, they can select the CampusCam link to view the camera’s home page. The page also features the current temperature, humidity, wind speed and forecast from the Weather Channel. Users need a university account to sign on.
CampusCam is remotely controlled so it can send different views. Three common views that rotate daily are: the campus entrance on Floyd Curl Drive, the academic and administration building and the North Campus buildings. The camera can also display the downtown San Antonio skyline and traffic on Medical Drive.
