The Health Science Center’s premature infant development program PREMIEre is partnering with the University Health System (UHS) to promote the 2004 March of Dimes campaign “WalkAmerica.”

The March of Dimes has launched a five-year campaign to reduce the rate of preterm births by raising public awareness, educating women to the signs and symptoms of preterm labor, and supporting research to find the cause of premature birth.

The March of Dimes “WalkAmerica” fund-raising walk is this Saturday, May 15, at Brackenridge Park. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the opening ceremony is at 8 a.m. The three-mile walk begins at 8:15 a.m. Although any contribution is welcome, with a contribution of $20 or more, participants will receive a UHS/UTHSC “WalkAmerica” T-shirt. Children and pets are welcome to participate in the walk. Those interested in contributing, but not participating in the walk, may receive a T-shirt by contributing $20. Registration forms can be picked up from each department’s representative.

UHS and the PREMIEre program have set a goal of raising $5,000 for this year’s campaign. For more information on participating in the March of Dimes campaign, contact Carolyn McLerran or Wanda Daniels of the PREMIEre program at (210) 567-5235.
