Professor receives award from American Academy of Oral Medicine

Vidya Sankar, D.M.D., M.H.S., assistant professor in the division of oral medicine in the department of dental diagnostic science, was awarded the Robert I. Schattner Award from the American Academy of Oral Medicine, for presenting an outstanding abstract in the field of oral medicine.

Dr. Sankar received her award at the 58th annual American Academy of Oral Medicine Conference April 23 in Key Biscayne, Fla. The award is named after Dr. Robert I. Schattner, a dentist and businessman, who has donated to oral medicine research and education.

Dr. Sankar received a bachelor of science degree from Rider University, Lawrenceville, N.J. and a doctorate of medical dentistry from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark. She earned a master of health science degreefrom the National Institutes of Health and Duke University training program in clinical research. She is a diplomate of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and a member of the American Dental Association. Dr. Sankar has also been a fellow of the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation and a National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research Institutional Review Board member.
