SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 27, 2013) — The latest in low vision technology such as magnifiers, kitchen aids, caption cell phones, and large number and talking clocks will be on display at the San Antonio Low Vision Expo, set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 9, at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church, 5247 Vance Jackson.
Keynote speakers at 11 a.m. will include optometrist Sandra Fox, O.D., director of the Lions Low Vision Rehabilitation Center of Texas at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio. She is an assistant professor of ophthalmology in the School of Medicine, occupies the Nancy Smith Hurd Endowed Chair for Low Vision Research, and is a clinician with UT Medicine San Antonio, the clinical practice of the School of Medicine.
Other speakers are Stephanie Schmiedecke Barbieri, O.D., of the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind Vision Rehabilitation Center and the University of the Incarnate Word, and Nancy Amir, O.D., of the Santa Rosa Low Vision Clinic.
Sighted volunteers will be available to guide visitors to several vendors who offer resources for low vision and senior living. Agencies represented will include the Education Service Center, Region 20; the Low Vision Resource Center; and the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services.
