“At the CTRC, we contribute every day to making lives better for each patient. It is our hope for a  cancer-free future that drives the vision of the CTRC.”

Ian M. Thompson Jr. M.D., executive director of the CTRC

Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the United States, exceeded only by heart disease. In the U.S., cancer accounts for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths.

Cancer research at the South Texas Research Facility will advance studies and patient care at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, South Texas’ only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center.

A leader in developing new drugs to treat cancer, the CTRC Institute for Drug Development (IDD) conducts one of the largest oncology Phase I clinical drug programs in the world, and participates in development of cancer drugs approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
