The Committee on Graduate Studies (COGS) administers and coordinates the policies and activities of the Graduate Program in Microbiology & Immunology including changes to the guidelines, requirements, and expectations of the program (M & I Track Handbook). The COGS, consisting of members of the Microbiology & Immunology Graduate School Faculty, acts on such matters as 1) development and maintenance of curriculum, 2) monitoring student progress, 3) approving the selection of Supervising Professors, memberships of Qualifying Exam committees and research (dissertation) committees, 4) mediation of disputes between students and Supervising Professors, and 5) reviewing qualifications for membership on the track Graduate Faculty.

The Chair of COGS is responsible for monitoring the progress of students, for advising students on their overall curriculum plans and their compliance with Microbiology & Immunology guidelines, and for facilitating two-way communications between students and COGS. The Chair of COGS is also called the Graduate Advisor and is an important resource for students.
