Dr. Kudolos Ginkgo biloba work earns top honors
Allied health researcher George Kudolo, Ph.D., associate professor of clinical laboratory sciences, earned the Osher Award for Best Presentation in Basic Science at the International Scientific Conference for Complementary, Alternative and Integrative Medical Research. Dr. Kudolo presented his research on the effects of Ginkgo biloba on thromboxane B2 production in platelets harvested from type 2 diabetic patients.Dr. Kudolo is working to identify which ingredients in Ginkgo biloba inhibit platelet aggregation, a component of the process more commonly known as blood clotting. Six Osher Awards were given for best presentation in various scientific categories. Dr. Kudolo was one of 12 researchers selected from a total of 250 abstracts to present material at the two-and-a-half-day conference. The Osher Awards are sponsored by the Osher Center at the University of California at San Francisco and the Osher Institute at Harvard Medical School.
