Health Science Center News Dr. Walsh elected to NBME
The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) has elected Nicolas E. Walsh, M.D., professor and chairman of the department of rehabilitation medicine, as a member. "This group determines a physicians ability to apply knowledge and practice medicine. The NBME testing and standards determine who gets a license and who does not," Dr. Walsh said. "I am honored by my election to this very prestigious board." Two HSC doctors named best in the nation
The Ladies Home Journal has ranked two Health Science Center faculty members among the best doctors in the nation. The magazine listed Robert Schenken, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology, as one of the "Best Family Doctors in America" for May 2002. Dr. Schenken occupies the Frank Harrison Chair in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and is director of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility. The magazine also named Terence Spencer Herman, M.D., one of the "Best Doctors for Women" in the magazines April issue. Dr. Herman is a professor and chairman of radiation oncology. Dental diagnostic science department welcomes new chair
The Dental School welcomes Martin Thornhill, M.B.B.S., B.D.S., M.Sc., Ph.D., as professor and chairman of dental diagnostic science. With specialty training in oral medicine and a background covering both medicine and dentistry, Dr. Thornhill hopes to help future dentists understand how medical problems affect patients and how the medical field affects dentistry. "Im happy and proud to be at the Health Science Center. This is a strong department with a history of great clinical work and teaching," Dr. Thornhill said.
