December 2002 Rajam Ramamurthy, M.D., professor of pediatrics, will become the first female physician to serve as president of the Bexar County Medical Society (BCMS). Dr. Ramamurthy joined the BCMS more than 15 years ago and has been on the board for the past seven years. "The tremendous support from the faculty was key to winning this election. I have broken the glass ceiling not only for women physicians but also for academic physicians," Dr. Ramamurthy said. "One of my top priorities will be to promote programs that mutually benefit both academic and practicing physicians. I look forward to the challenges ahead." Dr. Ramamurthy becomes president-elect in January 2003 and will assume the presidency in 2004. The BCMS celebrates its 150-year anniversary next year.
