April 2003 Jan Vijg, Ph.D., and Paul Hasty, D.V.M., reviewed the scientific literature to date on aging and DNA repair in one of the recent issues of the journal Science. Dr. Vijg is a professor of physiology at the Sam and Ann Barshop Center for Longevity and Aging Studies. Dr. Hasty is an associate professor at the Health Science Center’s Institute of Biotechnology. The Science paper is titled "Aging and Genome Maintenance: Lessons from the Mouse?" and appears in the Feb. 28 edition of Science. Drs. Vijg and Hasty co-authored the paper with scientists from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, Erasmus University in The Netherlands and other institutions.
