April 2003 The Texas Department of Health named Lance Villers the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Educator of the Year for his leadership and commitment to EMS education in Texas. Villers is an assistant professor of emergency medical technology and developed the Health Science Center’s bachelor of science degree in emergency health sciences. The degree is the first of its kind in Texas and one of only 13 similar programs in the United States. The first class of students entered the program in the fall of 2001 and will graduate this May.
