August 2003 The Health Science Center’s Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) Medical Library in Harlingen and Biblioteca Las Amerícas, which serves the South Texas High School for Health Professions and Science Academy, received the Texas Library Association’s (TLA) Project of the Year Award for their Peer Tutor MEDLINEplus Pilot Project. MEDLINEplus is a free database developed by the National Library of Medicine to provide reliable information to the public on various diseases and health conditions. The successful collaborative pilot project is an integral part of the Health Science Center’s outreach project, which seeks to understand the health information needs of the area’s Hispanic population.
