Health Science Center is home to nation’s highest NIH-funded research scientists
all researchers nationwide in total National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding over the past 25 years, and eight Health Science Center faculty members are on the list. Congratulations to Susan Naylor, Ph.D., Gregory Mundy, M.D., Joel Baseman, Ph.D., Robert Glen Hart, M.D., Arlan Richardson, Ph.D., Steven Mark Haffner, M.D., Michael Paul Stern, M.D., and Vernon Bishop, Ph.D. Health economists at Columbia University examined the funding histories of approximately 50,000 researchers who received NIH grants from 1977 to 2002. The NIH is one of the world’s foremost medical research centers. It provides funding for scientific studies at universities and research institutions across the nation. In Fiscal Year 2003, the NIH funded more than $27 billion in congressional appropriations. |
