August 2002 One of the nation’s most distinguished military medical leaders has joined the executive ranks of the Health Science Center. Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., president, announced the appointment of Harold L. Timboe, M.D., M.P.H., Major General, U.S.A. (Ret.), to oversee the Health Science Center’s involvement in issues relating to homeland defense, bioterrorism research and partnership with the military medical community. Gen. Timboe is a graduate of West Point. He received his medical degree in 1978 from the Health Science Center, where he was named Distinguished Alumnus of the School of Medicine in 1999. He is a decorated combat veteran and medical leader who served with distinction in Vietnam and during the Gulf War. He has the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Army’s Distinguished Service Medal, five awards of the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, four Meritorious Service Medals and many other honors.
