New neurosurgery residency program established
David F. Jimenez, M.D., FACS, professor of neurosurgery and director of The Center for Neurosurgical Sciences in the Medical School, said the new program supersedes the first program that was launched in 1973, and continues the Health Science Center’s proud history of educating neurosurgeons. Dr. Jimenez serves as director of the residency program. The Health Science Center and University Health System have committed substantial resources to the program. Dr. Jimenez has hired several new faculty members to form The Center for Neurosurgical Sciences. The center offers full neurosurgical clinical services encompassing trauma, vascular conditions, neuro-oncology, epilepsy, spinal surgery and pediatric neurosurgery. Dr. Jimenez said residents of the neurosurgery program will gain valuable guidance and experience from the outstanding faculty at the center.
