November 2005 Virtual Meeting of the Minds Global research and collaboration happen every day at the Health Science Center. Thanks to generous funding from the SBC Foundation, this collaboration is a lot easier and more efficient. The UTHSCSA Virtual program allows faculty from across the nation to meet and discuss research partnerships without having to leave their offices. Specialized software makes it possible for faculty to collaborate on grant proposals and to share volumes of research information, including images such as digital X-rays and microscopic images, within a secure environment via a desktop computer. The project is poised to have worldwide potential that will put the Health Science Center at the forefront of global research. For more information on UTHSCSA Virtual, visit http://uthscsavirtual.uthscsa.edu. Thriving Texans Texans now have easy access to health care-related news and information at their fingertips through www.healthytexas.org. Funded by the SBC Foundation, Frost Bank and others, the Healthy Texas Web Gateway is a Web site partnership between the Women and Family Health Information Network and the Health Science Center libraries. The site includes basic regional health information and a directory of health providers, facilities and support groups for 38 counties in South Texas. An "Art and Health" section also complements the site. The goal of the site, which features more than 40 community-based health organizations, is to improve the health and quality of life for all South Texans. Related Stories
