20 Years of Transplants
Glenn Halff, M.D., professor of surgery and director of the UTHSC/UHS transplant program, and other colleagues commemorated the 20-year anniversary of the expanded program in October and delivered their perspectives on the future. "The transplant program, relatively young, has grown from a focus on kidneys to a highly successful multiple-organ program," Dr. Halff said. "The liver, lung and kidney transplant programs here are among the most successful in the United States. A center of this reputation is something that should make San Antonio very proud." The liver transplant program is the ninth largest in the United States, and has performed more than 100 cases for five straight years. Dr. Halff was recruited in 1992 to initiate this program.
