ERMA FLITSCH: Spirit of Giving
Today, Ms. Flitsch is taking action again – by making an important commitment to the Sam and Ann Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies. "Mr. and Mrs. Barshop have gone about establishing this Institute in a very nice way. I was really impressed with what I learned about the research during my tour with Dr. Arlan Richardson. Getting to meet them was very meaningful to me," she said. As a nurse, Ms. Flitsch became aware of the Barshop Institute through her adviser and friend, William Kopplin of UBS Financial Services. Since that time, she has met many of the Institute’s scientists, including the director, Arlan G. Richardson, Ph.D. She also met with Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., president of the Health Science Center. Because Ms. Flitsch desires to leave a gift that will benefit others in perpetuity, she chose to make this commitment through her estate. Ms. Flitsch is a native of Wisconsin. Growing up in a small town during the Depression, she learned leadership through the examples of her parents and grandparents. Today, she hopes her leadership in giving to the Barshop Institute will be an example to others to support this dynamic research program in San Antonio. |
